Across Canada, business transition is no longer a future issue. It is a present reality. The Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) reports that 60% of business owners are now over the age of 50, and that 76% of Canada’s small and medium-sized businesses plan to exit within the next ten years. Yet only 1 in 10 owners have a formal succession plan. This puts hundreds of thousands of businesses, and trillions of dollars in economic value, at risk of disappearing rather than continuing.
